Meta Quest VR Headset Enhances User Experience with Avatar Creator, Horizon Feed, and More
Meta has released the Meta Quest v57 update for its Quest virtual reality headsets, introducing various new features and enhancements for users. Notably, the avatar creator has been significantly improved, allowing for greater customization options. Users can now personalize their appearance by adding highlights to their hair, selecting a specific base hair color using a slider, and even choosing the color of their eyebrows. This highly requested feature has been fulfilled by Meta.
Announcing the new customization features, Meta said in a blog post: “With V57, we’re releasing a new update to our avatar that helps bring these details and more to life. Now you can fine-tune things like hair and eyebrow color, fine-tune skin tone, add makeup and face paint, and otherwise get VR -your persona to better reflect how you see yourself IRL.

While avatar customization is the main highlight of the update, there are other features to be excited about. Let’s look at them.
Horizon Feed: According to Meta, Horizon Feed provides content relevant to users’ passions and interests. They can find new content to explore in the feed, such as games, apps and discs. Horizon Feed replaces the Explore tab in the game.
Cancel Sending Picture Messages: Users of Meta Quest VR and the mobile app will now see an option to cancel sending picture messages if they accidentally send a message or send a message to the wrong person. This feature will initially be rolled out to users living in Australia, Canada, Iceland, New Zealand, South Korea, Switzerland, Taiwan, and the United States.
Free movement in Horizon Home: Previously, users could only move between predefined hotspots in Horizon Home. But now Meta allows free-form movement through Home Horizon, allowing users to explore their home environment more. However, this comes with some limitations, such as users not being able to teleport through walls, furniture, or virtual objects such as the Avatar Mirror. They also cannot teleport too close to another person’s avatar.
These features are rolling out in stages and should reach all users within a few days.
